I have been asked when will I formulate a botanical makeup remover that can remove waterproof mascara and synthetic makeup. I prefer to address another question: Do you know the contents of these type of products?
Waterproof mascara and synthetic makeup contain two of the most common plastics, polyethylene and copolymers, among other synthetic ingredients. For example, these ingredients in a waterproof mascara harden in contact with air and coat the eye lashes in a film of plastic to create their cosmetic effect. This is why waterproof mascara is hard to remove, causes eye irritations and infections, and the loss of eyelashes.
Solvents are effective makeup removers for this type of products. However, solvents, just as the synthetic makeup they remove, are not biodegradable, are toxic to flora and fauna, and disrupt our ecosystem.
Formulating a makeup remover for synthetic makeup is contrary to the essence of my work and my way of life.
